Hindsight is always 20/20 and there seems to be no way to avoid looking back and wishing you did something different. Many engaged couples seek to avoid this by doing ample research and planning before their once in a lifetime day. But when you research couples number one regret on their wedding day - the answer may surprise you.
According to The Knot one of the biggest regrets couple have on their wedding day is . . . not hiring a Wedding Videographer.
Wedding Videography is often seen as a luxury, versus Wedding Photography which is often seen as a necessity. In general I believe that Wedding Photography has been seen as an essential backbone for vendors hired on wedding days.
The average cost of a Wedding Videographer in 2026 can feel like paying double for media coverage. I can understand why many couples feel that wedding budget priorities force their hand to let go of the chance of their wedding to be filmed. But from my clients personal experiences, here's why you need a wedding video.
Moments will be captured that you completely forgot about
I've heard from more than one client that they were so surprised that their video was full of moments they either completely missed or didn't remember until they watched the footage. One of my favorite weddings I filmed was a small ceremony on New Years Day in a Montana Lodge. When both the bride and groom were at the front, I noticed the groom was being so sweet rubbing the brides hands with his thumbs. So I decided to zoom in and capture the moment.
The bride sent back a message specifically about that shot. She said she didn't even notice that it happened and was so glad that I captured it. Emotions run high during weddings, you can get so caught in those strong feelings that some of the details slip away. Which is okay, that's why the wedding videographer is there! To let you be in the moment while they capture it.
You're more likely to look back on your Wedding Video versus Wedding Photos
I know, big statement! But if you think about it, it makes sense. You'll definitely hang up your wedding pictures in your home, make it your phone screen background, and send shots in that years Christmas card. Wedding Photos are incredibly versatile - hence the appeal. I can't recall any time me and my husband went through all our wedding photos together. We have however watched the entirety of our wedding film in reminisce several times. We've even shown our video to new couple friends, its almost like they got to be there!
Documenting Family Memories
Photography is very good at capturing family, the bridal party, and the couple. But what about the rest of the party guests? Guests are more likely to get a cameo in the film than in photos. Other than the one obligatory everyone in the photo snapshot.
Speaking personally one of my favorite things about my wedding video is being able to see my husbands late grandpa. From the moment I met him he was very supportive of my husband and I being together. His wedding was one of the last places he was able to travel a long distance for. Watching him have a chance to say a small speech at our rehearsal dinner is a priceless treasure. Each time we watch it we really get to see him the way we remember him. A World War 2 veteran with a plethora of stories and wisdom and an unforgettable spirit.
Capturing Vows and Speeches
Speeches are nerve wracking no matter what, but especially when saying things to the person you love the most in front of your friends and family. Couples can be so caught up in the moment of looking into each others eyes, you don't get to enjoy the moment as much. One of the most requested moments I've been asked to film is capturing the speeches. And it isn't surprising to me that is one of the most important moments people want to look back on.
In Conclusion
There's no secret that weddings are expensive and Wedding Videography can be seen as another unnecessary expense. But in reality it is remembering forgotten memories, experiencing your wedding day through the eyes of your friends and family, and being able to look back on the most Joyful Day as a couple. Don't be one of those couples that has to live with regret, hire a wedding videographer to capture the joyful day you deserve.
